I was first contacted by Kathryn in January, with an exciting proposal for some bespoke wedding keepsakes…
Kathryn had two daughters getting married and wanted them each to have keepsake pieces for their weddings, made using Kathryn’s beautiful silk wedding dress!
Made from Mothers Wedding Dress
Katie was to be married in March and Kathryn asked for a garter, horseshoe and bouquet ribbon all to be made from her dress, it’s silk, lace and pearls, plus the grandmas, pearl necklace. Isn’t that lovely!
Making a horseshoe with grandmas pearls…
Kathryn cut into the wedding dress herself, sending me pieces she thought I might use… Here you see pieces in the top of the photo from the neck and bodice.
Kathryn suggested I use a strand of Grandmas pearl necklace as the horseshoe strap and you can see I’ve attached it here.
Then I made a ribbon from the silk crepe de chine dress and bound the horseshoe, finally adding the necklace clasp and narrow ribbons.
Making a garter from mothers wedding dress
More of the silk crepe de chine dress was used for the narrow garter, personalised inside with the happy couples names and wedding date, the lace is from the dress petticoat and the ivory pearls you saw around the neck of the wedding dress. The three central pearls from grandmas necklace.
As I’m designing, I usually send through photos like this to give you an idea of what your finished pieces will look like…
Lastly I made the bouquet ribbon, personalised with Katie and Gareths initials.
Huge thank you to Kathryn for asking me to make these pieces and Katie and Gareth for sharing your photos… Keep reading to see what Kathryn chose for her other daughter Janie and her December wedding!
More Keepsake Pieces, Made From Mothers Wedding Dress…
For her daughter Janie, Kathryn chose a horseshoe, ring cushion and bouquet ribbon all to be made from her silk wedding dress.
For the back of the ring cushion, I made a personalised strap panel, perfect for the ring bearer to slip their hands into, to carry the cushion safely.
The front of the ring cushion was scattered with pearl flowers, inspired by my Leila wedding garter. The pearls and the silk fabric, were all taken from Kathryn’s wedding dress.
The bouquet ribbon, made to match the ring cushion, with Kathryn’s silk dress fabric and pearls, I hand embroidered with Antony and Janie’s initials…
The horseshoe I made a ribbon strap, personalised with the happy couples names and wedding date. The horseshoe itself is bound with ribbon made from the dress and embroidered with flowers, the pearls are taken from the pearl embroidery around the neck of Kathryn’s dress.
Two lovely sets, an absolute pleasure to make for two gorgeous brides. Thank you Kathryn, I hope your daughters Katie and Janie, treasure their keepsake pieces forever! xx
If you would like something special made, please contact me I’d love to make something special for you too!
